Sacrifice
I find that I’m the happiest when being of service of something bigger rather than being of service to myself.
Inherently building new things requires undue amounts of sacrifice of something bigger, whether it’s a company, project, or idea.
At the beginning of Covid I read one of my favorite books by Viktor Frankel called Mans Search For Meaning. It’s about survival during the holocaust from the perspective of a psychologist. The common thread that made people more resilient is that survival was at the service of something bigger themselves, whether it was their family or some broader purpose.
I think the same goes for many normal situations in life, and those of us who can recenter on that purpose are the ones who have the ability to create the things that power us into the future.
It’s different for everyone, but within this idea are forms of spiritual growth that are key to the insights that will help us create the future for our children.
Here’s a link to that book for anyone interested in reading. It’s one of my all-time favorites
